Our School Day - Part IV

March 2, 2008

Here in MO we are required to complete 1000 hours of school each year.  600 of those hours must be in Reading, math, social studies, language arts, and science.  It doesn’t exactly say that the 600 hours must be split equally.  600 hours divided by 365 per year equals 1.64 hours of school per day in the five subjects above.

We were supposed to cover Science yesterday but the weather was not cooperating.  You see, it was in the low 70s yesterday and well, it would have been child abuse to keep the kids inside.  Instead we did P.E.

This is where they prefer to play.  This is our side yard and the neighbors front yard.  This is the neighbor with the teenage daughter that babysits.  They also let us play in their yard and use their football when they run to lunch in town.  Oh ya, I like our neighbors.

We had three neighbor boys over so it made for a good game.  I supplied the flags when I realized the touch football system was not working.  They also use the flags for marking who is it during freeze tag.  They usually designate 2 or 3 that are taggers.

It was so warm out they all took their shoes off.  Which makes me happy.  There is nothing better than kids and the freedom they have to go barefoot in warm weather.

They were also very good about including the little kids.  There are some issues with these boys that we have to deal with but all in all I’m pleased with the opportunities my boys have to play with others.  I am eager to move though. :)

We are going out to the property today.  It will be in the 70s again.  Tomorrow it will be rainy and in the 30s.  I know, weird.  Tomorrow will be a perfect day for Science and Spelling tests. :)

What a great day for P.E. It looks like everyone had fun. It is so interesting how every state qualifies what is considered homeschooling and how many hours/day are required. Here is NC we have to do 180 days but they do not tell you how many hours in each day. I think they suggest 4 hours which comes up to less than 1000 hours. Anyway, I loved watching your homeschool day(s). I hope you are enjoyed the weather!
    Blessings,

    70s?! Wow, we won’t see 70s for 2 months (or more) up here… grrr…
I’m so glad you like your neighbors. I know how unpleasant it can be to not be so fond of the neighbors… fortunately for us, we no longer have neighbors…

We are longing to be outdoors more soon!

    Enjoy your weather,
and like always, enjoy your children-

Hey there…question. When do your little ones graduate to the big table? Is it a grade or an age?

We had a nice warm day on Friday and Saturday, too…but we may have SNOW this afternoon…it’s in the 40s now expected to drop into the low 30s by tonight…BLECH…I was looking forward to getting out in the garden!

We played outside a lot this weekend, but today it’s rainy and cold. Boo-hoo! I’m looking forward to our Spring Halftime. Sooo glad Jan & Feb are over!

Do you school year round? I have been looking at different schedules including year round and 3 weeks on and 1 off and am curious what works for you.
